Welcome Message from the JA PreventNCD Coordinators
As JA PreventNCD enters its second year, we reflect on the progress made and the foundation we have built together. Over the past year, we have launched key activities and strengthened collaborations with action grants and other EU initiatives. The engagement and dedication from partners across Europe have been instrumental in driving this work forward.
Looking ahead, 2025 will be a year of action—scaling up our efforts, deepening partnerships, and ensuring that our work translates into meaningful impact. The challenges ahead remain significant, but by working together, we can advance policies and initiatives that promote health, equity, and resilience across public health systems.
We invite you to stay connected and engaged as we continue this journey.
Thank you for your commitment to making a difference.

JA PreventNCD at the "Together for Europe’s Health - Strategic Orientations and Actions for Public Health" Conference
On January 16, Poland, as part of its EU presidency, hosted the Together for Europe’s Health – Strategic Orientations and Actions for Public Health conference in Warsaw. The event provided a platform for discussing key public health challenges, including disease prevention, mental health support for youth, and the digital transformation of healthcare.
JA PreventNCD was proudly represented by Mojca Gabrijelčič (Slovenia), Hanna Tolonen (Finland), and Knut-Inge Klepp (Norway), who shared insights on evidence-based health policies, data-driven public health strategies, and the importance of regulating harmful product advertising. Their contributions reinforced JA PreventNCD’s mission to support EU Member States in strengthening NCD prevention policies.

Updates from JACARDI
Strengthening Cardiovascular Health in the EU: JACARDI’s Momentum in Public Health Policy
JA PreventNCD and JACARDI share a common mission: tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through coordinated action, policy development, and evidence-based interventions. While JA PreventNCD focuses broadly on NCD prevention, JACARDI (Joint Action on Cardiovascular Disease) is dedicated to reducing the burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) across Europe.
JACARDI has started the new year with significant momentum, driven by major public health developments in Brussels. With the European Commission endorsing the Cardiovascular Health Plan, a stronger EU policy focus on cardiovascular prevention, and increased funding commitments, JACARDI is well-positioned to make a lasting impact. These recent milestones reinforce the importance of prevention, early detection, and improved access to cardiovascular care—closely aligning with the objectives of JA PreventNCD.
JACARDI’s latest guest article, The Art of Being in the Right Place at the Right Time, explores how these policy advancements set the stage for better cardiovascular health across Europe. The article highlights the adoption of the Council Conclusions on Cardiovascular Health, the European Parliament’s move to create a standing committee on public health, and the role of Joint Actions like JACARDI and JA PreventNCD in shaping future EU health initiatives.
