To keep pace with the project’s growing activities, our newsletter now moves to a monthly format. This edition highlights our input to the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan, youth engagement, new scientific publications, and key September events, plus a look ahead at what’s next.
Statement on the EU Cardiovascular Health Plan
JA PreventNCD has submitted a response to the EU’s Call for Evidence on the upcoming Cardiovascular Health Plan. Our recommendations stress equity, early-life prevention, population-wide action, and tailored support for people at higher risk.
Youth Voices in Focus
On 22 September, our Youth Advisory Group contributed directly to the European Commission’s consultation on cardiovascular health. They called for stronger prevention, equal access to care, and a central role for young people in shaping policy.
Upcoming Webinar: Health Taxes & NCD Prevention
On 26 September 2025 (11:00–12:00 CEST), JA PreventNCD will host an online webinar on health taxes as a tool for NCD prevention.
The session will explore what health taxes are, how they work, and their potential role in improving both public health and fiscal outcomes across Europe.
Speakers include:
- Prof. Franco Sassi, Imperial College — introduction to health tax concepts
- Michele Cecchini, OECD — health and economic dividends of taxation
- Oliver Gainford, DG TAXUD, European Commission — perspectives on EU tax policy
The webinar will be moderated by Arnfinn Helleve, leader of the Regulation & Taxation work package in JA PreventNCD.
This discussion is designed for policymakers, civil society, and academic stakeholders engaged in public health, tax policy, or NCD prevention.
European Synergies on Cancer and NCD Prevention
On 5 November 2025 (09:00–17:00 CET), JA PreventNCD will join the Final Synergies Conference, which brings together multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary stakeholders from across Europe.
The event will highlight why equity must remain central in prevention, share strategies and lessons from five EU projects, and explore collaboration across sectors and initiatives. Participants will also learn about effective interventions for cancer and NCD prevention.
This forward-looking conference is an opportunity to consolidate knowledge and identify recommendations for future prevention initiatives in Europe.
