JA PreventNCD participated in the EU Cancer Mission showcase event, held in Brussels from 29 September to 1 October 2026. Under the theme Stronger Through Connection, the event marked five years of the EU Cancer Mission, providing an opportunity to reflect on progress and discuss the path towards achieving its goals for 2030.

Organised by the European Commission, the three-day event covered topics ranging from cancer prevention and early detection to treatment and data exchange, highlighting the contributions of European research and public health initiatives.

On 30 September, the programme focused on prevention and early detection, alongside quality of life, survivorship and palliative care.

Opening the day's discussions, Member of the European Parliament Vlad Voiculescu highlighted the importance of continued investment in cancer research and European initiatives tackling the disease.

JA PreventNCD was represented through an information stand, where partners working on cancer and non-communicable disease prevention presented the Joint Action's objectives and ongoing activities. Visitors could learn more about the project through a poster and information materials, while exchanging perspectives with the team.

The event also provided an opportunity to connect with other European initiatives working towards shared prevention goals.

Connecting with other European prevention initiatives

An important part of JA PreventNCD's participation was engaging with projects funded through Horizon Europe, including ONCODIR and PREVENT, both members of the Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Cluster.

Discussions offered an opportunity to exchange experiences and explore different approaches to cancer prevention, including the development and use of digital solutions to support prevention activities.

These connections are particularly relevant as European projects work to translate research and practical experiences into approaches that can be used more widely.

By engaging with other initiatives, JA PreventNCD can share experiences, identify opportunities for cooperation and contribute to wider European efforts to strengthen cancer prevention and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases.
