How can European cooperation help turn the EU's Safe Hearts Plan into practical action to improve cardiovascular health? Join JA PreventNCD, JACARDI, the EUPHA Chronic Diseases Section and the EUPHA Public Health Monitoring and Reporting Section for a pre-conference exploring how evidence from European Joint Actions can support implementation across Member States.

About the event

The EU Safe Hearts Plan, adopted in December 2025, is a European strategy for cardiovascular health organised around three interconnected pillars: prevention, early detection and screening, and treatment and care.

This pre-conference explores how JA PreventNCD and JACARDI can contribute to putting the Plan into practice, with evidence, practical examples and joint work across countries. The discussions also address the conditions needed for effective implementation, including health equity, data governance, research, digital technologies and sustainable cooperation.

The programme covers:

  • Prevention: health literacy, population-level measures, social inequalities, environmental factors and civil society participation.
  • Early detection and screening: structured screening, health checks, workplace settings and monitoring.
  • Treatment and care: integrated care, self-management, patient empowerment and health system performance.
  • Cross-cutting implementation: equity, data governance, research priorities, digital technologies and long-term sustainability.

The day concludes with a high-level roundtable on how results from the Joint Actions can support lasting implementation of the Safe Hearts Plan at EU and national levels.
